Hindenburg. Yes T...Hitler was appointed to power by
Hindenburg. Yes There was an election, but by then Hitler was in complete power and no one would dare vote against him.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-293250201518152067.post-47085466622076218802012-11-01T11:52:38.748+00:002012-11-01T11:52:38.748+00:00Indeed, the swastika flag was the flag of the Germ...Indeed, the swastika flag was the flag of the German nation as from 1933. British people get uptight when they see a photo of Chalk Farm Savation Army Band playing in Berlin (1936) accompanied by a swastika flag, but if the British band brought a Union Jack with them, there was no way the German Salvationist could respond but by bringing a German flag along. Which had a Swastika in the centre...

All but 3 small hostels were taken over by the State in the 30s. Some had the personnel replaced immediately, in others the officers ("co-workers") were allowed to remain. It varied from tow to town, as did permission for open-air work. In East Prussia open-airs in uniform went on until 1939;in the "red" Ruhr area they were forbidden much earlier.Collecting money was completely forbidden;the Salvation Army archives in Germany have the records of court proceedings against soldiers and officers who tried to sell War Cries or collect for Self-Denial.
Yes, probably compromise on some points took place. It is easy from our position to criticize. The most important thing for me is that the Army still has not recoved from those 12 years 1933-45,is so much smaller than it was in 1932 and carries an added burden when we try to explain why we are an army and wear uniform etc. Germans are allergic to uniforms!
And we must never forget that Hitler came to power by winning an election; the people - most of them - wanted a strong leader and voted for Hitler.
We Salvationists in the Heilsarmee are still paying the price for the country's vote in 1932.

Christine Schollmier, Salvation Army Historical Archives, HamburgSchollmeiernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-293250201518152067.post-62815853109690981022012-11-01T05:37:18.691+00:002012-11-01T05:37:18.691+00:00There are a few comments I like to make. The Army...There are a few comments I like to make. The Army severed the contacts with England because they where at war at War with each other. However they had contacts with the international Army via the neutral Sweden. That they carried the swastica flag at their marches and probably in their halls too was a normal procedure since it was the flag of the State, the same as the Americans carry their flag on marches etc. There was no political statement attached to it. I have a War Cry from that time where Adolf Hitler is on the front page and underneath it said "We congratulate our Fuehrer Adolf Hitler to his 50th birthday ". Finally England was not the principal Enemy of Germany, France was, for centuries. England got involved into the war because they had promised France and Poland that they would protect them in case of an attack.
Major Rolf D.Guenther Dan Guentherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16075868740276271514noreply@blogger.com
